VAGINOPLASTY
As a part of gender confirmation surgery, the MTF patient may choose to undergo a vaginoplasty, which effectively turns the male genitalia into an attractive, functional vagina that is fully sensitive to pleasure and sensation.
Your surgeon will perform vaginoplasty by constructing a vagina, vulva, labia, clitoral hood and clitoris from the scrotal and urethral flaps, as well as the inverted penile tissue. Sensation is preserved through the blood and nerves, which remain attached at all times.
WHO CAN GET VAGINOPLASTY
- Have 2 letters of support from a mental health professional who is familiar with the client’s transition journey
- Be on hormone therapy
- Have a minimum of 12 months of real life experience as their chosen gender
- Be healthy in both mind and body
- Have reliable support
- Be at a healthy weight for their frame
- Be non-smokers
- Have realistic expectations for their results
- Be willing to follow Dr. Satterwhite’s instructions to the letter

After your initial visit with Dr. Satterwhite or Dr. Safir and the surgical team at Align, you will have a consultation with our financial advisor, who will provide in-depth information on the insurance process. WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY CONSULTATION?
Each transman has his own individual idea of what gender affirmation means. It may include hormones, surgery, a new name, or it might not entail any of these options. The goal at Align Surgical Associates Inc. is to provide you with the tools you need to express your authentic identity and feel secure in your body. Metoidioplasty bottom surgery can be performed to create a neophallus (penis), offering FTM clients the opportunity to feel more aligned with their ideal self-image.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY CONSULTATION?
During metoidioplasty, the existing genital tissue can be used to create a neophallus. This procedure is less extensive than phalloplasty and does not preclude getting phalloplasty at a later date. Metoidioplasty is performed after about 12 months of testosterone therapy, which allows time for the clitoris to enlarge in terms of both girth and length. After the clitoris has grown in size, the metoidioplasty procedure releases it from surrounding tissue, forming a phallus.
The neophallus will have full erogenous sensation, be capable of erection, and may or may not be used for penetrative intercourse, depending on its overall size.
WHO CAN GET METOIDIOPLASTY?
Metoidioplasty is appropriate for clients who wish to undergo bottom surgery in typically a single-stage treatment, who will be content with the size of the phallus resulting from the enlarged clitoris, and who would like to avoid the increased risk profile of phalloplasty.
Patients pursuing metoidioplasty should be healthy, both emotionally and physically, and they should have realistic expectations for their outcome after meeting with our team in LA.
